There is a gain in being friendly with the king – Nigerian proverb.

Wealth creation is not a know it all thing. To create wealth, you need someone who has been there before. You need someone who has created wealth before to guide you. Someone who is wealthy and can put you through. In short, you need a mentor. Someone who will help you achieve your goal of building wealth faster than if you go it all alone. Listen to Oprah Winfrey “You cannot do it all alone. Do not be afraid to rely on others to help you accomplish your goals”

Your mentor is your fastest way to get you from where you are presently in wealth building and creation to where you want to be. With your mentor, you avoid first timer mistakes. With your mentor, your learning curve in wealth creation is cut short drastically. In point of fact, having someone to encourage in journey through wealth creation could be motivating and fulfilling.

Mike Murdock in his book The Making of a Champion enthused “Listen to your mentors, carefully choose them. Staying in their presence can be the golden door to the next season of your life. Great men have great habits. They carefully select their companies and their companies enhance their destinies.” You should therefore carefully select who you want your mentors to be. Deliberately choose a mentor who has been a wealth creator before. Learn the ways he took to create and accumulate his wealth. Learn from his mistakes and observe his strengths. Observe his habits, practice and master them. These will ultimately impact in your destiny. It will surely do.

Robert Kiyosaki, remember him? He wrote the classic “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” He chose his adopted father, his rich dad as his mentor. Through him he gained all the knowledge he required to be successful in business and consequently build wealth. Kiyosaki advised that we choose our mentor wisely. He further advised that:

a). We seek mentors both in business and investment arenas who will act as our guides in our quest to build wealth.
b). Seek out reverse models to learn from in your quest to build wealth.

If you want to learn to ride a horse, you need to first listen to someone who has done it before. Your mentor has done it before and he is in the best position to guide you. Your mentor in wealth creation is the person who will be bold to tell you about your inadequacies, your strengths and your weakness in wealth creation. He will tell you what is important and what is not. Therefore, your mentor is an important factor in your quest to create wealth. Ignore the importance of your mentor in bid to create wealth to your peril.

According to Chinese proverb, “A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study.” A Latin proverb sums it up, “He who walks with the lame only learns how to limp.” I believe these words are enough for the wise.
