If you’ve never visited Spain’s Costa del Sol before then La Cala is a perfect place to start. This fully self-contained tourist resort has everything you are looking for from your two week getaway or your holiday home. La Cala lies just west of the city of Malaga and you can reach it from the airport within a 30 minute drive.
The village offers an attractive mix of modern and traditional property and European and Spanish facilities. You are just as likely to find an authentic Spanish tapas bar down a small narrow street as you are to enjoy the latest modern restaurants serving everything from Indian to Thai food.
One of the best things about La Cala is that all the bars, restaurants, banks and services are within a five minute walk from the seafront so you don’t need a car to get around. This gives the place a very friendly feel and makes it safe for children and families. If you ever get tired or the place starts to seem a little bit too small, then there are direct bus services straight to Marbella and Fuengirola.
The main residential area runs directly alongside the beach so you can literally stroll straight from the sand into your property. It is this proximity to the beach and general convenience that makes it so popular. There are also a number of golf courses including the La Cala Resort, which is the biggest golf resort in Europe.
Over the past decade La Cala has seen a boom in its permanent population as thousands of British, German and Irish expatriates have set up home. There are many English-speaking shops and services and it’s easy to get hold of your favourite products and your favourite newspapers.
The last few years have seen a massive expansion in residential construction to cater for the growing population. These apartments, townhouses and villas are now ready to move into and there are some good deals available.
Prices in the area have not suffered to the same extent as those in other parts of Spain, simply because it is a genuine year round destination. You are just as likely to find tourists here in January as you are in July, which makes it a good buy to let investment. So if you’ve never sampled the delights of the Costa del Sol before, La Cala is a great place to start.
