As sleep sets upon us, we slowly move into a different world. A world full of dreams, a world where the mind and conscience is crystal clear, a world which can be measured in our palm, a world called the mind. While we sleep, our conscious mind starts drifting through the numerous paths laid and sketched within itself while our body rests. Some say that sleep is the most nourishing, stimulating and refreshing thing to do.
In technical terms, sleep is like a charger for our body that totally rejuvenates it for the next day. Lack of sleep leads to insomnia that results in a lot of stress symptoms in our body. But some people tend to get used to it and even though they know that its killing them, they prefer living with it. One of the major reasons for insomnia is the amount of pressure that is laid upon us.
And if tonight my soul may find her peace
in sleep, and sink in good oblivion,
and in the morning wake like a new-opened flower
then I have been dipped again in God, and new-created.
~D.H. Lawrence
This quote might have been taken from ancient literature, but has beautifully mentioned the need and significance of sleep which we so need considering the rat race we are living in. I say we should all take a break to relax and let our consciousness wander in a different world called mind so that we wake up to see more the next day.
With so much of work and activities happening around all day, it becomes almost impossible to take a break and get some quality sleep. Sleep becomes an entity that one catches with great effort. A normal person needs around 7 to 8 hours of sleep, while children and adolescents need 9 to 10 hours of sleep everyday to get rid of all the weariness and also develop a strong mental and physical state.
