How much money would it take to make you happy? How much money would it take to make you feel secure? How much money would it take to remove the “fear of lack” from your life? How much money would it take to make you feel totally prepared for retirement?
Many people have been duped into thinking that if they accumulate a certain amount of money by setting aside a certain amount of money each month, and letting it accumulate for a set number of years, then their retirement years will be all wrapped up in a neat little package complete with pretty bow. No worries; no concerns. You’re all set.
But is this really true?
Thousands of people have been sold on the idea of such and so financial plan because it will supply all that they need through retirement until death. This then becomes equated to happiness and security.
I could point out any number of reasons why this approach is invalid but this is a short article. That means I’m limited to pointing out only the most obvious!
Let’s begin with the most basic idea of accumulation. By its very nature accumulation is closely related to hoarding. People often resort to hoarding out of fear. And a fearful person is not a happy person.
Rather than encouraging people to scrimp and save for retirement, I enjoy helping individuals find and live out their own personal life purpose.
The person who is living out their life purpose is active, productive and fulfilled. (This is what I call the RichLife.) And those who are active, productive and fulfilled are often so happy, they seldom think about retiring. At least, it’s not their chief aim in life.
Stop and consider the focus in your own life? Are you so intent on saving for retirement that the NOW of life is passing you by? Are you so filled with fear of not having enough for retirement (scarcity mindset) that you are miserable?
No matter what anyone tells you, remember that money will never equate to happiness. The biggest bank account can never buy the peace and satisfaction that comes from living a RichLife.
